In my final Spring semester of college, my IDS practicum class had the opportunity to create a portion of the Veteran's web page from the Grout Museum. The goal we had in mind was for it to be made more interactive for the older audience. The reason why we determined a more older audience is because the site would mostly be a platform where you could search a veteran and read about them as well as share your own story/someone you know. Since this site is also revolved more around Iowan veterans and the high population for those who are in their 50-70's, we thought it would be more appropriate and practical to add a more simple user interface rather than a modern display with a lot of interactivity because they could easily navigate around the pages without giving up quickly and leaving the site.
Since I was responsible, along with 2 other students, for the UX aspect of it, we made sure to plan out more accessible and user friendly pages with links that lead to quick navigation that made the older audience more comfortable with when exploring through the site. Some of the ways we implemented the site was coming up with personas, launching/testing, site mapping, wire framing, and user feedback by creating a survey to see what users thought was helpful on the site and what elements we could work on to better improve the usage and engagement for them.
